Artist Statement for the Drawing Lessons series

My professional life is split into two roles: one as a teacher and another as an artist. This is by no means a unique situation: but, it is significant for me because of my realization that the interrelationship of these two roles is a central theme in my latest series of prints, "Drawing Lessons". They present images that combine drawings created while teaching drawing, a reference to the place where this activity occurs, and the simple objects used in the process of learning to see and create illusion. These disparate elements are not intended to present cause and effect relationships but rather combine to create a layered spatial matrix referencing the complexity and paradoxes of learning.

The prints are archival, pigmented inks on rag paper.
