Analytical Lab
(adjoining room).
This facility has been recently developed into a fully functional networked
computational center for spatial analysis and other computer tasks. The
room contains two Dell Optiplex GX620 computers with Intel Pentium D 3.00
GHz processors, 240 GB Hard drives, and 2.00 GB RAM. Software on the
local drives includes ArcGIS 9.1 (ESRI), ERDAS Imagine 9.0 from Leica
Geosystems, Carlson X-port for Total Station data logger, Microsoft SQL
Server 2005, and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, several dedicated lab applications,
plus the standard database, spreadsheet, and office software.
Sedimentary Analysis:
1. Microsieves
for sonic sifter
2. Separatory flask for heavy liquid separations
3. Dessicators
4. ATM sonic siftor and micro sieves
5. Malt mixer and baffled malt cups for grinding
& disaggregating sediment... (Oh sure... no chocolate in this
lab!)
6. Mortar & pestle
7.
U. S. Standard Testing 8" brass sieves.
Gravitometric Analysis
Right: Denver Analytical balance, precise to 0.0001 g.
Middle: digital 5 kg scale, precise to 0.01 g.
Left: Old-fashioned triple-beam balance.
Tree ring stage
Water-quality sampling:
Suspended sediment filtration (Click on figures for larger view):
1. Three-filter manifold vacuum pump assembly
2. & 3. Buchner filters (2 cm & 10 cm diameter)
4. Sediment cones for settling sediment
5. (in back) vacuum pump with pressure gauge & valve
