Dorian A. Lamis
M.A., Clinical Psychology, East Tennessee State University, 2006
Clinical-Community Psychology Doctoral Student, Department of Psychology, University of South Carolina
Dorian is a 5th-year graduate student in the Clinical-Community Psychology program. His work focuses on suicidal behaviors and alcohol use in adolescents and young adults. He has a strong interest in suicide research involving college students in particular. Dorian is a recipient of the SOPHE/CDC Injury & Violence Prevention Fellowship to investigate alcohol-related problems and suicidal behaviors. He hopes his research will inform suicide prevention programs, particularly on college campuses.
Dorian has a strong interest in clinical work, especially with adolescent and adult populations who are at-risk for suicide and other self-harm behaviors. He is trained in DBT and the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), but his overall therapeutic approach is a mix between Cognitive Behavioral and Interpersonal therapies. Dorian also has an interest in working with clients who have alcohol and/or substance abuse problems. He currently carries a caseload of adolescent and adult clients presenting with a variety of clinical issues.
Dorian is senior editor of the book, Understanding and Preventing College Student Suicide, published in August, 2011, by Charles C. Thomas Publishers.
