Info for Simon Tarr's Advisees

Advising for Spring 2008 takes place on March 19 and 20, 2008.
My office is 318 McMaster College, sign up for a time on my office door.

What you do: What I do:
Know what you have taken. Double check your choices.
Know what you have left to take for your major. Check and sign your advising form.
Know what you have left for your degree. Suggest courses based on your interests and focus.
Know what you want to take next semester. Give career advising.
Figure out course availability, times, and location.

DOWNLOAD THIS ADVISING GUIDE. Then use the information in it to fill out:

  1. Core Requirements Worksheet
  2. Media Arts Worksheet

Yes, you have one of these in your folder in the Art office. It's out of date, and usually not filled out correctly. Print this and fill it out with the correct information: what you have taken, what you are taking now, and include notes on what you want to take after having looked at the Master Schedule.

At your meeting time:

How to know if I'll ask you to leave and come back when you're ready:

If you do not complete advising during this window, you will need to come during my office hours once registration begins.

Seriously. Read all the material about your degree requirements, read the degree bulletin. You are responsible for your academic success, your advisor is here to advise you on your game plan. Students sometimes come and expect me to explain the basics of what is plainly available and publicly disseminated. Not exactly a good trait for an aspiring media professional.
